Apple

Apple certification programs are programs created by Apple Inc. to verify an in-depth knowledge of various areas of Apple's products. They are designed to create a high level of technical proficiency among Macintosh service technicians, help desk support, technical support, system administrators, and professional users. Apple certification exams are offered at Prometric testing centers and Apple Authorized Training Centers.


Apple Macintosh Service Training

These certifications designed for individuals interested in becoming Apple service technicians, help desk, desktop support, or Macintosh consultants who need all-around experience in servicing Macintosh computers. It includes two separate certifications.

Apple Macintosh Hardware Certification

This certification is for the repair and diagnostics of all Macintosh desktops, portables, and servers.

Altiris

Altiris Inc. is a subsidiary of Symantec specializing in service-oriented management software which allows organizations to manage IT assets. They also provide software for web services, security, and systems management products. Established in 1998, Altiris is headquartered in Lindon, Utah, United States. Altiris has over 20,000 customers managing more than 3 million servers and 60 million desktops and laptops.

On January 29, 2007, Symantec announced plans to acquire Altiris and on April 6th, 2007 the acquisition was completed.

Altiris was started in 1998 when Jan Newman and Kevin Turpin spun off the software arm of KeyLabs. KeyLabs was, and remains, a third party testing facility. The Altiris Software had been created at KeyLabs to manage the computers at KeyLabs and that software became the start of what is now Altiris. Altiris continues to develop software designed to help IT departments manage their networks and computers more efficiently.

Altiris continued to grow. In early 2000, Jan Newman who was then President and CEO brought in Greg Butterfield to take over the role of President and CEO. Under Mr. Butterfield's leadership, Altiris acquired Computing Edge in September 2000. Computing Edge's founder, Dwain Kinghorn, had come from Microsoft and helped to develop Microsoft's original Systems Management Server product (SMS). ACSM

Many organizations give certification to personal trainers, but few are as comprehensive as the certifications given by The American College of Sports Medicine, also known as ACSM. The certification allows a trainer to highlight his or her knowledge about exercise and the human body. There are several types of ACSM certification exams that trainers can take.

A personal trainer is a health professional whose job is to help clients exercise more efficiently. Taking a client's needs into account, he or she will design sets of exercises that help a client to reach his goals as quickly as possible. Trainers also work out with their clients in order to ensure that the client is completing each exercise correctly.

Certification can help a trainer in obtaining work at a gym or with private clients. Some gyms or fitness centers may require a personal trainer to have a certification as a condition of employment. Different types of certification can be earned, depending in part on the type of clients a personal trainer plans to work with.

The basic ACSM certification for personal trainers is called ACSM Certified Personal TrainerSM. It covers the basics of creating an exercise plan and working with clients. In order to apply for this basic certification, an individual must be at least 18 years old, currently hold a high school diploma or GED, and have a current CPR card. The CPR class must have had a practical skills component.

Once the minimum requirements have been met, a person may take the ACSM Certified Personal TrainerSM exam. Self-study and in-person courses are available. There is a higher level of general ACSM certification, which does not depend on a specialty area. This ACSM certification is known as ACSM Certified Health Fitness Specialist.

Clinical professionals may obtain special certifications. If the applicant holds an undergraduate degree in a clinical field, then he or she can obtain the ACSM certification known as ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist®. If the applicant holds a graduate degree, then he or she can obtain a ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist® certification.

In addition to the ACSM certifications listed above, there are several specialty ACSM certifications. A trainer must have the ACSM Certified Personal TrainerSM certification before he or she can apply to take a specialty exam. The ACSM/ACS Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer (CET) certification is for trainers who are interested in working with cancer patients. Trainers who are interested in working with the physically or mentally disabled can become an ACSM/NCPAD Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer (CIFT). A trainer does not have to join the American College of Sports Medicine in order to take a certification exam. If a trainer does choose to join, however, he or she will get a discount on the costs taking their exams. All ACSM certifications are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCAA).

Accounting

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is the statutory title of qualified accountants in the United States who have passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination and have met additional state education and experience requirements for certification as a CPA. Individuals who have passed the Exam but have not either accomplished the required on-the-job experience or have previously met it but in the meantime have lapsed their continuing professional education are, in many states, permitted the designation "CPA Inactive" or an equivalent phrase. In most U.S. states, only CPAs who are licensed are able to provide to the public attestation (including auditing) opinions on financial statements. The exceptions to this rule are Arizona, Kansas, North Carolina and Ohio where, although the "CPA" designation is restricted, the practice of auditing is not.

Many states have a lower tier of accountant qualification (below that of CPA), usually entitled "Public Accountant" (with designatory letters "PA"). However the majority of states have closed the designation "Public Accountant" to new entrants, with only about 10 states continuing to offer the designation. Many PAs belong to the National Society of (Public) Accountants.

Many states prohibit the use of the designations "Certified Public Accountant" or "Public Accountant" (or the abbreviations "CPA" or "PA") by a person who is not certified as a CPA or PA in that state. As a result, in many circumstances, an out-of-state CPA is restricted from using the CPA designation or designatory letters until a license or certificate from that state is obtained.

In order to become a U.S. CPA, the candidate must sit for and pass the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination (Uniform CPA Exam), which is set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and administered by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. The first law establishing the CPA designation was passed in New York on April 17, 1896.

Eligibility to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam is determined by individual State Boards of Accountancy. Typically the requirement is a U.S. bachelors degree which includes a minimum number of qualifying credit hours in accounting and business administration with an additional 1 year study. This requirement for 5 years study is known as the "150 hour rule" and has been adopted by the majority of state boards, although there are still some exceptions (e.g.California). This requirement mandating 150 hours of study has been adopted by 45 states.

The Colorado State Board of Accountancy allows Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), together with Chartered Accountants from eligible jurisdictions automatic eligibility to sit for the Uniform CPA Exam as a Colorado candidate.
